Road Accident Fund is recruiting and accepting applications for Junior Officer vacancy.

Purpose: The Junior Officer is responsible to identify, on a timely basis, those claims for which there is litigious dispute to enable settlement offers / tenders promptly and also those that require thorough, early investigation and rigorous development of the legal defence issues to enable a trial strategy which is reflective of the case’s value.

Key Performance Areas

Internal defending of all magistrate Court Summonses

  • Draft Notice of intention to defend and all pleadings in preparation of trial.
  • Draft pleadings, affidavits, notices and court processes.

Settle non litigious matters before they are set down for trial

  • Block consultation, early assessment of files, early instructions to experts and assessors.

Attend to all litigious matters

  • Prepare and proceed to trial.
  • Attend to Magistrate Court litigation of claims referred to the Internal Litigation Section.
  • Appoint and instruct assessors and expert witnesses.
  • Keep accurate records.
  • Maintain a trial register / diary.

Improve on customer satisfaction

  • Regular feedback to internal and external stakeholders.

Contribute in the elimination of writs

  • Ensure that all court orders are loaded timeously.
  • Ensure that payment documents are correct and forwarded to finance within the prescribed period related to receipt of court order.
  • Ensure all settlements are loaded timeously and forwarded to finance within the prescribed period of acceptance.

Qualifications and Experience

  • NQF 6 (National Diploma or Advance Certificate) related qualification to discipline.
  • Relevant 2 years working experience in a claims / insurance / MVA environment.

  • Knowledge / skillful in court rules and litigation.
  • A good understanding of the organization’s litigation infrastructure, services provided.

  • Statistical, numerical and analytical principles and processes.
  • Innovative thinking with service quality, and its improvement, within limits of costs and business direction.
  • Excellent communication skills orally and in writing.
  • Awareness of RAF vision and strategic / business objectives.
