Casual Cashier

To Support customer service at point of sale while ensuring a world-class shopping experience. Record customer transactions on the Dis-Chem operating system according to company policies & standard operating procedures, with zero tolerance toward inaccuracies & elimination of fraud risk.

Essential:

  • Grade 12 / Matric
  • A minimum of 6 months’ experience cashier/till operations experience
  • Computer literate – MS Office

Job Description:

  • Adhere to Dis-Chem’s customer service policies and procedures
  • Establish a professional relationship with customers
  • Report customer complaints and compliments to the Frontline Supervisor, or store management
  • Adhere to the customer turnover hourly rate
  • Be aware of current sales and promotions
  • Ensure colleagues and customers are not exposed to any risk
  • Carry out and manage Dis-Chem 5 star communication principles
  • Be responsible for cash flow
  • Ensure all line voids and price changes are approved and signed off by the supervisor
  • Exchange merchandise for customers and accept returned goods by customers when authorised to do so
  • Transact all purchases – receive and process all payments (cash, bank cards, vouchers, coupons, other forms of payments) accepted by Dis-Chem
  • Process all loyalty cards including those of our accelerator partners (Discovery Health Care, Medihelp Lifestage, Momentum Multiply, Legacy Lifestyle, ABSA Rewards and eBucks)
  • Ensure cash is placed in drop safe according to Dis-Chem’s SOPs
  • Ensure usage of your code and password is restricted to only you; is safe, and is changed regularly
  • Ensure all outgoing stock/items/scripts are scanned and paid for
  • Ensure that all money is strictly kept safely and securely inside the till
  • Handle daily takings confidentially, and only discuss with management
  • Be alert, recognise and report suspicious behaviour to management

Receiving Clerk

You will ensure the efficient and accurate receiving and packing of stock in line with Dis-Chem’s SOPs and requirements, and customer needs within the store.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Grade 12 / Matric
  • Computer literate

  • Willing and able to work retail hours

Advantageous:

  • Previous receiving / retail / FMCG experience

Job Description:

  • Accurately verify, scan and capture physical goods received for the store, in accordance with company policy and standard operating procedures
  • Receive all warehouse goods and invoices in accordance with company policy and procedures
  • Return all unordered or damaged goods delivered to the store and accurately complete credit notes for non-acceptance in accordance with company policy and SOPs
  • Verify and check deliveries and invoices for total accuracy
  • Ensure goods delivered are the goods invoiced and captured in terms of quantities, variant and condition
  • Assist the Receiving Manager in preparing and logging warehouse claims on the warehouse claims system
  • Ensure the flow of stock receipts through receiving is maintained, that deliveries arriving are receipted the same day and sent to the floor
  • Process all returns to suppliers in compliance with company SOPs
  • Ensure all physical controls over the goods receiving area are in place and operational

Sales Assistant

Main purpose of the role would be to provide overall assistance to customers through excellent customer service. The roles will include maintaining stock levels, processing of payments at Point of Sales and upholding high merchandising standards.

Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 12 / Matric
  • Up to 6 months’ retail experience
  • Minimum 1 Year work experience within retail

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Report low stock levels, items that are out of stock, damaged stock and expired stock to management
  • Assist with the counting of stock files and general stocktaking.
  • Assist with the loading and off-loading of stock when needed.
  • Identify and report damaged and expired stock immediately to management.
  • Ensure boxes are flattened after unpacking stock and taken to the designated area. 
  • Ensure that full ranges of products are always on the shelves and neatly presented.
  • Maintain the stock on the shelves to ensure it has not reached its sell by date.
  • Restock merchandise when needed to ensure maximum sales.
  • Ensure merchandise displays, labels and pricing are always correct and report all price discrepancies to management.

Dis-Chem Pharmacies in Johannesburg has a an opportunity for a security guard to Render a security service in terms of the Private Security Industry Regulations Act 56 of 2001 as amended for the Dis-Chem Group that meets Dis-Chem’ security requirements to protect assets, property and staff by creating a safe and secure environment, through identifying signs of criminal activities or disorder and investigating disturbances while adhering to legislation relevant to the industry and best practice.

Minimum Requirements…

Essential:

  • Grade 12 – Matric or a Senior Certificate
  • Grade C accreditation with the PSIRA
  • A general minimum exposure of at least 3 years in the retail industry, such as shopping malls and warehouses

Job Specification…

  • Be vigilant and alert of surroundings to identify suspicious activities and apprehend criminals or remove violators according to the legal authority invested in the industry and Dis-Chem standard operating procedures for the specific post through.
  • Random patrols of the premises on regularly basis to ensure optimal visibility and reduce risks.
  • Monitor and control access to the premises by documenting and regulating entrance into the site by vehicles or pedestrian’s access points to allow entry only to individuals with the correct authorization.
  • Investigate and report signs of damage or unlawful entry as it occurs to management and act accordingly in the best interest of protecting Dis-Chem assets.
  • Be clearly visible as far as reasonably possible as deterrent to discourage criminal activities, prevent theft, – damage, – personal injury, and other dishonourable acts.

  • When problem situations or crisis arise or have been dealt with to maintain observing surroundings and report to management on findings and or changes in identified that intensify the situation.
  • After a crisis, report the incident to management, the police or the appropriate authorities (such as the fire services in the case of a fire outbreak) with a detailed written report concerning the incident and your activities around the incident.
  • Monitor the alarm systems and or video cameras and operate detecting/ emergency equipment when needed.
  • When working during the night or alone e.g. after hours render on-going surveillance of the premises by patrolling the grounds and using closed-circuit camera monitoring or alarm systems to detect and investigate suspicious activities to ensure that only legal entrance to the premises is maintained.
  • In emergency situations provide assistance and the emergency teams e.g. alert first responders, clinic sisters, managers etc.
  • Maintain order during evacuation procedures and at assembly points by providing exact directions or decisive actions to ensure the safety of lives and property by preventing stampedes and breakdown of law and order or illegal entrance to the premises.
  • Offer on-going security advice and safety warnings and tips to ensure that all security and safety precautions are adhered to.
  • Be vigilant – watch out for any suspicious activities that may mean a breach in security measures that have been put in place on the site.
  • Interpret quickly whatever is seen and act accordingly.
  • Respond quickly and correctly during crisis – be alert to avoid being caught unaware.
  • Know how best to respond to various dangerous situations according to industry and Dis-Chem standard operating procedures.
  • Getting help – During some very dangerous situations (such as armed robbery attacks or assaults with deadly weapons), waste no time in calling the police to prevent loss of lives or property.
  • Take accurate notes of unusual occurrences and daily activities.
  • Enforce rules and regulations to prevent criminal activity before it happens.
  • Perform special duties – receive phone calls, respond to text and email messages, and run vital errands for the department according to Dis-Chem and industry standard operating procedures.
