SASSA SRD Grant has been Extended to help Jobseekers. The government of South Africa after a very short time introduced a special COVID-19 Social Relief Distress (SRD) grant of R350, in May 2020. This was the first large scale digitally implemented social security measure, for an initial period of six months.

As a response to people’s needs and increasing unemployment rate, the government decided to extend the grant period to next year. The grant plays a vital role for Jobseekers.

Beneficiaries may now collect their R350 grant until March 2025 thanks to the most recent extension.

South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) distributes several different permanent grants. These include the Older Persons pension grant, Disability grant, War Veterans grant, Care Dependency grant, Foster Child grant, Child Support grant, Child Support grant Top-Up and Grant-in-aid.

The SRD Grant is meant for South African Citizens, Refugees, Asylum Seekers and Special Permit Holders who are between the ages of 18 and 60 years, who have insufficient means, who do not receive social grants on behalf of herself/ himself or who are not contributing to or eligible for UIF payment, and have no financial support from any other source.

1. Online Application

Step 1: Access the Website

  • Visit the official SASSA SRD grant website at srd.sassa.gov.za, and follow the guide below.

Step 2: Start the Application

  • Scroll and select ”Click here to apply”

Step 3: Verify your contact number

  • You will be prompted to enter your cell phone number before you proceed with the application. After entering it, click ‘send SMS’.

Step 4: Enter One-time password (OTP)

  • An OTP will be sent to the cell phone number you provided. Kindly enter the OTP on the website to proceed with your application.

Step 5: Enter Personal Information

  • The application form will require you to provide personal details. Fill in your South African ID number, full name as it appears in your ID document, contact details, banking information and more.

Step 6: Submit the Application

  • When done, click on ”Submit” to finalize your grant application.

The review process may take some time, you will need to be patient and keep checking the status using the SRD website.
